Good quality. Easy to install. There is only problem, like other viewers said, large portion of the metal expose to the outside, so the connector may short to other wires by accident.
I purchased these to help connect my home theater. After ten transfers, I thought it was time to re-do all the speaker wiring. After assembly, the banana plug leaves a great deal of conducting material exposed.I was very concerned about using these on a powerful amplifier if something conductive(pliers, screwdriver, paperclip, etc). was accidentally dropped on the banana plugs while in use.I removed these plugs and re-terminated the speaker wire with a more insulated banana plug.
I love these plugs. For years I have used a different type where the wire goes through a hole and kind of wraps around a "cylinder" within the plug, and I have always found those "messy". These plugs, on the other hand secure to the wire with a screw and ensure that no exposed wire can contact anything "accidentally" by encasing the contact within an insulated jack. Love them.
I prefer this design to the typical banana plug since there seems to be more contact points. I also like the set screw clamping design that solidly presses the cable to the inner sleeve. The typical plug is bowed toward the center of the shaft and makes contact in that small area in addition to the tip. This plug's uniform shaft is designed to make contact along the whole surface area of the pin. I use a 12 gauge wire and there is ample space to insert it without a tight squeeze and the common aggravation of bent over wire strands. The price was reasonable.
You can tell a lot of thought went into their building. This means that if you have speaker wire that isn't the right gauge, you will not for a tight seal. There are 3 parts: the banana connector, the wire connector and the silver housing. These banana plugs are very well made; the connector fits in firm and tight to the stereo unit. I just wish somewhere it was stated what gauge this device is designed to work with. The screw doesn't go in far enough.
However it doesn't form a secure connection with some speaker wire.
However its the speaker wire secure fastener that I had issues with.
This isn't the end of the world, I was able to work with this and get a mostly secure connection.
The construction of the unit feels good in the hand as well.
Even then, I can see that over time the wire will become loose as the wire gets used to the compression.
When you take apart the connector, you'll see a little screw (they provide a small hex wrench to tighten and loosen the screw).
The screw is designed to clamp down on the speaker wire, holding it in place.
I'm guessing if you have 16 gauge speaker wire, this would work quite well.
Overall its not a bad product, its just not a universal product.
